3 perfect hotels to appreciate the Aurora Borealis

From September to March the sky of the north of the planet receives one of the most beautiful phenomena of nature: the Aurora Borealis. The lights attract several tourists thirst to witness this special event to countries like Sweden, Finland, and Iceland. To have a unique experience, we selected three hotels exclusively located to contemplate the glow of the solar winds and the stars.

1- Ion Luxury Adventure, Iceland

Close to the Hengill volcano and surrounded by mountains and rivers, Ion Luxury Adventure is a true jewel of the contemporaneous architecture. Idealized by the Studio Minarc, the building draws attention in the rustic eastern region of Reykjavík.

Immersed in the wild, the place promotes outdoor activities such as trekking on the glaciers, visiting the waterfalls of Gullfoss and fishing in the nearby rivers. Some of the must-see programs are the Lava Spa, a specialist in relaxing and refreshing treatments, and the Silfra restaurant, led by chef Gudmundur Sverrisson.

The icing on the cake is its location perfectly aligned to the Arctic Circle, which promises to witness the most incredible northern lights of Iceland. You can see it from the panoramic bar or even inside the cozy luxury rooms, where the view is also breathtaking.

2- Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, Finland

Located in Finnish Lapland, the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is a small winter paradise. Mixing rustic huts and glass igloos, each of their houses is in the front row to contemplate, from mid-August to late April, the Northern Lights of the Arctic Circle. Magic moments that illuminate the dark days of the region.

The guests can also take snow sleigh rides (with reindeer or Huskies), ice fishing, and expeditions on an icebreaker boat or visits to the Santa’s house. Hint: the place is even more charming in the holiday season.

3- Treehotel, Sweden

Kent and Britta Lindvall decided to open the doors of the Treehotel in 2010, a few miles from the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland. Instead of knocking down the trees, the couple hired the architects Bolle Tham and Martin Videgård to create six cozy cabins on the treetops. Each one with its own style: the “Mirror Cube”, the “Bird’s Nest”, the “UFO” and so on…

These comfortable shelters also offer a dream panorama about the surrounding nature and northern lights of Sweden. Do you want some more? The restaurant with Scandinavian cuisine, that offers delicate dishes to enjoy in the comfort of your room, is a must.
