Évora Museum
This is the main museum of the most important city in the Alentejo region. With more than a hundred years of history, it has 19 panels of religious themes and over 20 thousand objects, among paintings by artists such as Francisco Henriques, Garcia Fernandes, and Avercamp, Roman statues, and much more.
Center of Art and Culture of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation
Placed in the former Palace of the Inquisition, almost in front of Évora Museum, the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation’s Art and Culture Center focuses on contemporary art, presenting various exhibitions of artistic and cultural events. In addition, they also invest in an educational program, with debates and guided tours, often with the creator of the works themselves.
Elvas Museum of Contemporary Art
The city of Elvas is home to MACE, a museum that has six hundred pieces of the António Cachola Collection in its permanent collection, gathering works by Portuguese artists including drawing, engraving, painting, sculpture, video, photography and installations.
Portalegre Tapestry Museum
Located in Portalegre, near the border with Spain, this museum is dedicated to the local tapestries, which use the so-called Portalegre’s Stitch. They’re beautiful and original works in wool. There are also temporary exhibitions of national and foreign artists, especially those who use the Portalegre tapestry in some way in their artistic expression.
