That Paris is one of the most charming cities is something undeniable, but as if it was not enough to be surrounded by the fashion culture, such as ateliers, museums, and impressive runways, the French capital is still conscious! It was recently announced that the city aims to be the sustainable fashion capital of the world, and a 5-year plan will be drawn up.
The project was announced by Frédéric Hocquard (vice-mayor of Paris), Anne Hidalgo (responsible for cultural diversity and nightlife), Antoinette Guhl (deputy responsible for social economy and solidarity) and former fashion journalist, and the first editor-in-chief of Jalouse magazine, Isabelle Lefort.
The initiative, named “Paris Good Fashion”, aims to put pressure on the fashion industry to adopt more sustainable practices. The process will be carried out through three themes: improving supply and traceability, working to make processes more sustainable and creating a circular economy.
The program is already supported by leading companies such as LVMH (which owns major brands such as Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Fendi, Givenchy, and Dior), Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
“Paris Good Fashion is an open community regrouping fashion professionals, brands, entrepreneurs, designers and experts who will be working together to establish a roadmap of the steps that can be taken to make Paris the sustainable capital of fashion,” said Isabelle Lefort.
The plan of sustainability is expected to be presented in June as the city plans to achieve its goal by 2024 when it will host the Olympic Games.
