If you are a big fan of perfumes and cosmetics (or architecture) we have news for you: you must meet the store of the portuguese brand Claus Porto, inaugurated in New York in October 2018. The establishment, which was designed by the architects from Tacklebox Architecture, won a grade 10 according to the French magazine AD.
In addition, the store won the merit award in the ‘interior’ category during the AIA New York Design Awards ceremony, which took place last January.
The centennial brand, which maintains a vintage aesthetic in its packaging products, bet on a modern look for its store, inspired by the São Bento station in Porto. It features a 12-meter long arch, filled with 1500 diamond-shaped tiles creating the sensation of entering a tunnel.
Over the diamonds are the soap bars that were placed wisely to look like works of art on the walls. The store has also an area dedicated to the brands’ history (which is now 131 years old) with old objects such as the bottles of its famous fragrances.
A marble washbasin was placed in the center of the store making an allusion to the baptismal font and a celebration to the daily beauty ritual. The whole store was thought to take you to a time tunnel from old to new.
