Andy Warhol is on the rise: the king of pop art got two new exhibitions

If you are a fan of pop art, you probably know the works of Andy Warhol. The icon has been gaining more and more fans amazed by his colors and style. Although the painter has already shown that his art is always on the rise, we must admit that in recent years his popularity increased a lot and even after so many intelligent and fun works, there is still much to know about Warhol. Thinking about that, the artist got two new exhibitions this year, both in New York.

The Lévy Gorvy and Sperone Westwater galleries will open exhibits dedicated to different aspects of Warhol’s work: the colorful and huge portraits of beautiful women, and drawings and works never seen before.

The Lévy Gorvy exhibition “Warhol Woman” shows the daring side of portraits of the great female celebrities – some easily recognizable as Dolly Parton, Jackie Kennedy and Aretha Franklin.

“This exhibition intentionally shows the broad spectrum of society in which Warhol has focused on both his portraits and his life,” says Brett Gorvy, co-founder and partner of the gallery. “It was his intention to make beautiful women of all ages, ethnicities and classes.” The exhibition will be open until June 15th.

Sperone Westwater will host “Andy Warhol By Hand: Part II, Drawings 1950s – 1960s”, which seeks to show a calmer (not so pop) side of the artist. The gallery will feature 125 unreleased works made on paper. The curator is Vincent Fremont, former executive manager of Warhol’s studio and former CEO of the Warhol Foundation.

Although the work is exposed in other materials like graphite, pen and blurred line, Andy’s work is equally diverse. Among them are selections of nudes, portraits of dancers, dead nature of food, studies of flowers and sketches of bags and shoes. The artist was indeed a versatile man, who knew how to work several images.

“People think they saw and know everything about Andy, but that’s not the case. I always think there’s something new to learn [about] what kind of artist he was, “Fremont says. The exhibition will be open until June 29.
