For its new spring campaign 2019, Bottega Veneta was inspired by the time, working it as something indefinable and transient. This was the first campaign of the label under the creative direction of Daniel Lee – former designer of Céline – who got the position in June last year.
The British man showed a new way of interpreting the heritage of Bottega Veneta presenting a great influence of the Italian neorealism, as well as the lifestyle captured by the movies, with natural and relaxed images. In the campaign there is no heavy makeup or extravagant hairstyles, it’s as if each picture catches the essence of a persona, letting the luxury of the clothes speak for themselves.
Through the lenses of Tyrone LeBon, the campaign was produced for several days in a private property on the Neapolitan island of Ischia, which contributed even more to the subtlety and delicacy of the pictures. The images provoke dynamism, essentiality, and freedom, being worked so naturally that, in contrast to the major brands today, female nudity is present in a sensitive way, not sexualizing it.
Lee showed a timeless and elegant look, also bringing Italian roots with the main elements of the brand as a fine thin mesh and accessories in leather intrecciato. The cast combined women and men who span diverse generations and backgrounds, thus creating a look of universality, which together forms almost a community, generates similarity.
