Civil engineer, architect, and DJ, Virgil Abloh is much more than the designer of the moment. Son of Ghanaians, the American creator has become internationally recognized when reconciling high fashion with street style, anticipating a move that other brands would soon join.
No wonder that at age 38, his CV has become one of the most incredible of recent times. Virgil began his career in the fashion world as an intern at Fendi, alongside Kanye West. After that, he became the creative director of the singer. Currently, he has its own brand, the Off-White, which in just 5 years of existence has already become one of the most beloved of the street fashion.
If it wasn’t enough, in March 2018 he was named the creative director of the men’s line of one of the most traditional and admired brands in the world, Louis Vuitton. In just two collections (and a newly launched campaign), the stylist has already shown that he has come to stay, radically transforming the way the Maison expresses itself.
Virgil Abloh launched his audacious style at a time when the fashion was lost and he managed to bring the streets back – and in full swing – from a universe highly focused on luxury.
And if you still think it’s not a big deal, it’s worth mentioning that the American was one of the stylists listed to take Givenchy, which ended up with Clare Waight Keller. In 2015, he was also one of the nominees for the respected young LVMH designer award.
He still showed his versatility when setting up a partnership between Off-White and the sportswear house Nike. Abloh was given the task of rethinking some of his partner’s most beloved sneakers, as well as working on a series of photographs for Nike at the Mies van der Rohe pavilion in Barcelona.
