Known for delivering a more commercial style that is easy to adapt to street style, the New York Fashion Week, which takes place in September, usually lasts 7 to 8 days, will have a reduced calendar. The next season will only have 5 days according to a new plan proposed by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
The proposal was made by Tom Ford, the new chairman, who is taking over from Diane von Furstenberg in June. According to the WWD ,the intention is that New York fashion week gain greater relevance again.
“The entire New York Fashion Week is heading toward irrelevance or changing the timeline, trying to reinvigorate it and trying to be as accommodating as possible”, said the stylist to WWD.
If the proposal is approved, the new edition of fashion week will take place from 6 to 11 September. This also means reducing designers to participate in the fashion show. To choose the brands that will be eliminated from the calendar the CFDA is counting on the help of several people from the retail. “We are not only asking American publishers and buyers, but also international ones,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA’s chief executive officer.
According to Tom Ford, the new edition would give a greater focus to the great designers as well as the diverse schedules that happen around them, which would make easier the participation of the international press as well as retailers of all parts of the world.
