Sleep in a wine barrel in Portugal

An unforgettable experience: Can you imagine sleeping inside an oak barrel (those ones used for the maturation process of red wine)? Quinta da Pacheca, a winery and a hotel in the city of Lamego, northern Portugal, made this dream a reality.

Overlooking the Douro River, in the heart of the region considered a World Heritage site by UNESCO, the Quinta da Pacheca Winehouse Hotel has just opened ten special rooms in a new area of the 75 hectares. The giant barrels, previously used to store Port Wine, were renovated and placed in front of the vineyards dated from the middle of the 18th century. In its interior, adjustable environments for each guest with bed, bathroom, balcony and even a window in the ceiling to see the starry night sky.

Perfect for couples looking for wine tourism, there is also possible to make guided tours around the vineyard with wine tasting, wine and cooking courses, and even boat or helicopter tours on the Douro River. The restaurant with menu signed by the chef Carlos Pires provides a gastronomic immersion on the flavors of Portugal and the special gastronomy of the wine region.
